Neste tema, a palestrante irá traçar um paralelo entre os pressupostos da teoria ambientalista de Florence Nightingale que engloba, entre outros aspectos, a temperatura, umidade, água e microorganismos viáveis e partículas (poeira). Sabe-se que essas questões podem interferir na garantia do produto esterilizado para saúde e na saúde da equipe de trabalho na CME. As diferentes áreas que compõe uma CME apresentam características distintas em termos de controle ambiental. A sala de guarda e armazenamento, por exemplo, deve proporcionar ambiente de trabalho confortável, dispor de sistema de ventilação e refrigeração adequados a manutenção da esterilidade dos produtos. Recursos como placas de Petri, placas para amostragem em superfícies (Rodac) e leitores de umidade e temperatura, são cada vez mais utilizados para monitoramento das condições ambiental.
